Romance with a Twist

This author never disappoints,this is the type of book you want to read twice to make sure you caught everything. Like the heating problem with the house; it's a visual read, it's like watching a movie. My only complaint is the amount of time I have to wait between book releases, I hope the next book comes out soon. Don't sleep on Billy London!

Needs a sequel

Love, love this story... it's so good, Billy London as usual has outdid herself. I have to say that I am biased because she is on my automatic buy list, and I cant think of a novel/novella that I haven't liked.
This story is wity, romantic, and puts an interesting spin on the idea of a haunted house.
I cant say this enough this is a must read.... at least try the sample ;)

BLOODY BRILLIANT!

Terminally-ill Geariod is haunted by a beautiful but dead Aoife a doctor who was killed at a young age, puts his life at a stand still. All Geariod wanted to do was die in piece but Aoife wasn't having none of that. After 40 years Aoife has no idea of who or why she was murdered once she realized Geariod could see her set on a journey that would lead to the killer (s) responsible. This was a fast paced emotional, yet sexy tale, Geariod was very bad a** and Aoife was quite humorous for a ghost. Billy pulled your heart strings in this dark IR tale with a few life lessons all turns out well bringing a new meaning to the saying, "nothing short of death can keep me from you!"

About the Author
Douglas Harding (1909-2007) was a British philosopher who worked out a modern map of our place in the universe. Harding invented experiments for testing the view that at centre, at zero distance, you are different from your appearance at say ten feet. At zero distance you are 'space for the world'. Harding's experiments mean you don't believe this, you test it for yourself. This insight corresponds with what all great mystics have said about who we really are.

Douglas Harding's writing are so profound and timeless they will never be outdated. This book is no exception as Harding leads us further and further into the simplicity of disconnecting us from our "heads." In this book he shows us the way to oneness that is often spoken of but rarely illustrated as Harding can. Ultimately the point at which we comprehend "everything" is precisely at the point where "nothing" exists. In this space we find the simplistic beauty of everything which is ultimately the only way to experience anything! Wonderful book, by a wonderful Seer.

Oh holy cliffhanger!

Be warned this isn't your average vampire tell. When I first started the reading I was worried it be the same mundane vampiric tells that seem to be flooding the book market lately. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the twists and turns of Victoria's vampires. Their was no mundane over explanation of them. The story is unique and even gives different characters POV. What I found the most refreshing is how mostly normal the vampire lives seemed to be in the book and how the heroine wasn't all cliche! Filled with paranormal activity, the right amount action, and sexiness makes this book fantastic in my opinion! This was an amazing read that I consumed in less than a day. I'm dying to learn the fate of Nikki as the book ends in a cliffhanger! I would defiantly recommend this read!

A new tale on an old story

Red Creek is like any other small town. Nothing ever happens, the town drunks hang out at the local bar, and town recluse that everyone speculates about. In Red Creek, Saul Benton is the town recluse and, unknowing to the townspeople, the local vampire. When Nikki Galimore witnesses Saul's inhuman strength, she knows he's something other than human. She decides to find out if her instincts are correct and shows up on Saul's doorstep. Saul is drawn to the human and feels things he thought long buried. When the town is stricken with mysterious deaths and bodies disappearing, Saul is afraid he isn't the only vampire in Red Creek and that places Nikki in mortal danger.

Victoria Knight does a great job in setting the backdrop for Red Creek. A sleepy little town where nothing ever happens. She introduces the key players, Nikki, Jason, Kyra, and Lester who play in role as the evil unfolds. She makes you feel sorry for Saul, even though he is a vampire, when she describes the interaction between Lester and Saul. You can't help but root for Saul and how he reacts to Lester's taunts. As the story unfolds, you realize Saul is lonely and the appearance of Nikki may be what saves him. The story does contain a few twists and turns and is different from how most vampire stories go. The story flows well and draws the reader in. The story does end on a cliffhanger, which is maddening, so I'm off to the book #2 to see what happens.

a new kind of Vampire story that's great

I'm not a professional at reviews so ill do my best. Nikki has lived in her small town of Red Creek all her life, she crosses paths with Saul; the town's loner/reclouse. Nikki finds out Saul's secret and is Intrigued by him and soon seeks out his company. Their has been a couple of gruesome deaths in Red Creek and if it isn't Saul then who is it? Nikki soon finds out and that's where the story really begins. I don't like giving away the story when I do reviews. I found Monsters Within different than other Vampire stories that are currently out there. The writer does a great job of coming up with her own take on vampires, definitely not sunshine and lollipops but there is still sex appeal and major hotness going on. A little gore and a little sex is always a great combo for me, this book opens up a good story to come and left me wanting more and on the edge of my seat. I always say these types of books are to short but that's how they are made so I'm ok with it. Can't wait to read the second bok in this series. I believe the writer has something special here. I would recommend this book to fellow vampire lovers.

Janice Thompson, Ph.D., FACSM

Janice Thompson earned a doctorate in exercise physiology and nutrition at Arizona State University. She is currently Professor of Public Health Nutrition at the University of Bristol in the Department of Exercise and Health Sciences and is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. Her research focuses on designing and assessing the impact of nutrition and physical activity interventions to reduce the risks for cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes in high-risk populations. She also teaches nutrition courses and mentors graduate research students.

Janice is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and a member of the American Society for Nutrition (ASN), the British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (BASES), and the Nutrition Society. Janice won an undergraduate teaching award while at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. Janice publishes two other nutrition books with Pearson Benjamin Cummings: the majors-level� text, The Science of Nutrition (recently published in its second edition, January 2010), and the consumer-level book, Nutrition for Life, published as a second edition in early 2009. Melinda Manore, Ph.D., RD, FACSM
Oregon State University
Melinda Manore earned a doctorate in human nutrition with a minor in exercise physiology at Oregon State University (OSU). She is the past chair of the Department of Nutrition and Food Management at OSU and is currently a professor in the Department of Nutrition and Exercise Sciences. Prior to her tenure at OSU, she taught at Arizona State University for 17 years. Melinda’s area of expertise is nutrition and exercise, especially the role of diet and exercise in health and prevention of chronic disease, exercise performance, weight control, and micronutrient needs. She has a special focus on the energy and nutritional needs of active women and girls across the lifecycle.

Melinda is an active member of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). She is the past chair of the ADA Research Committee and the Research Dietetic Practice Group and served� on the ADA Obesity Steering Committee. She is a Fellow and current Vice-President of the ACSM. Melinda is also a member of the American Society of Nutrition (ASN), the North American Association for the Study of Obesity (NAASO), and serves as chair of the USDA Nutrition and Health Committee for Program Guideance and Planning. Melinda serves on editorial boards of numerous research journals, and has won awards for excellence in research and teaching. OK content but disappointing assessment materials

I used this book in a Nutrition 101 class. The content is good, the design and graphics are helpful and well thought out. The ancillary test assessment tools were clearly a rushed job from the publisher. The online answer keys provided to the school by the publisher were often incorrect, questions were poorly written, and there were plenty of spelling errors in test questions making the tests confusing and unhelpful. These would've benefited from a copy editor and proofreader. Disappointed with the attention to detail for the price.

Thank you kindle for making it cheap

First of all, thank you Amazon for making this textbook kindle available. Half price of paper version is worth it. Now to the pros of the kindle edition...

Pros: Cheaper then paper. Yes, even if you don't have a Kindle you can read it on your computer or your phone/tablet.

Digital edition cons: Image resolution is horrible. This book features tables and full-page text-filled illustrations that are almost unreadable on digital edition. image resolution or size should be better, especially for the tables (you will be quizzed on some). Digital edition still refers to page numbers ... even though it doesn't have page numbering. "Review this on page 63 ..." or "see the discussion on page 211". This does not really help.

Digital edition has 2 licenses, so you can have it installed on your laptop and dorm computer or your phone and your laptop, etc.

Overall edition cons: The 3rd edition came out in 2011, yet it has references to sites and some phenomenon that are extinct since 2004 (like McDonald's supersize menu, and mypyramid.org site). Seriously, if you you are to come with a textbook every 6 months at least update the content, not just slap a new label and ISBN on it...

great read!

I just started reading this text book for a Nutrition class and I have to say, out of all the text books I have read in my college years this one is turning out to be one of the easiest to read. The content is clear and straight forward. The authors do a great job at giving you simple to understand descriptions and images to clarify any confusing points. They also do a great job at keeping sections from dragging on, and even add in quirky stories to break up the reading (they are pretty cheesy stories, but serve their purpose). The only criticisms I have is that the questions/quizzes at the end of the chapter don't always mirror what you just learned, and others are a bit confusing when you find out what the answer really is. Also, some information should be touched on a bit more in the main text of the book and then in more detail in the boxed off sections, such as equations etc ( I know they already do this, but if i'm going to be asked on how to convert and what not in quizzes, I would like a bit more emphasis that I WILL need to practice this a bit more, if that makes any sense at all?). However, though I am only a few chapters in, based on what I have read I would definitely recommend this book to future nutrition students/classes. It is an enjoyable and informational read!

Very good resource for JavaFX 8.0

This book is one of the first if not the first that covers the brand new 8.0 release of JavaFX. The authors are some of the most active and most respected people in the JavaFX community, supporting it since many, many years. You will buy the combined knowledge of them.
As the title suggests, the book is rather a collection of examples and solutions to day-to-day problems in rich client applications than a tutorial, although it covers most of the current features of JavaFX. In that respect it is a perfect addendum to e.g. the online tutorials of Oracle and will save you a lot of time and headaches if you are already developing applications in JavaFX or plan to do so in the near future. I already read the 2.0 version of this book and can definitly recommend this one too.

A solid introduction with a plethora of usable examples

As you can see, there is wide array of topics, starting with some very fundamental topics (covering JavaFX and Java 8 fundamentals), then moving on to more complex topics. If you’re familiar with the updates in Java 8, then chapter 3 can probably be safely skipped, but chapter lays the foundation on which the rest of the book is read.

Rather than walking through each chapter, I’ll say this: each chapter is clear and well-written, providing copious amounts of sample code. One of the things I really liked about the examples is that, usually, each example source/application was shown in its entirety, then the authors walk through each significant section of code explaining the whats and whys, repeating the source for easy viewing. Furthermore, whether by luck or design, the code is formatted very neatly and displays perfectly on my Android tablet. I’ve read a lot of technoical books, and, more often than not, the code wraps oddly and is hard to read. With very few exceptions, the code was all neatly formatted so that it displayed cleanly on the ereader, which made it much easier to read.

The book ends with what I would consider a bit more advanced topic: JavaFX and the Internet of Things (IoT. As an aside, I really hate that term :). To be honest, I only lightly skimmed these chapters, as I’m not even thinking of working in this area at the moment. From the scan, though, the chapters look pretty solid, with plenty of advice in selecting and setting up your board, to getting your application to run on it. Should I ever venture into this realm, I’ll definitely have to revisit this section.

The last chapter (actually an appendix), is called "References", and it is exactly that: 16 pages of links, and it might be one of the best parts of the book. Being an introduction to JavaFX, there’s no way the authors can cover everything you need to know about the topic, so Appendix A comes to the rescue with link after link to help you go deeper. Topics include: Java 8 SDK and APIs, IDEs, Properties and Bindings, Layouts, Tools, Enterprise GUI Frameworks, and on and on. If my count is correct, there are links to 210 difference resources. I don’t remember the last time I saw such an exhaustive list in a book like this.

This is a very solid introduction to JavaFX. The prose is well-written and easy to follow, and there are ample, ready to use examples for each topic. If you are interested in JavaFX in even the slightest way, this is a great place to start.
